"The Extraverted Thinking Type"
ET (Te)
Introduction
The extraverted thinking type (ET) bases all its activities on intellectual conclusions, which are always orientated towards objective data. This data can be of a scientific nature or describe generally accepted ideas. Both his principles and objective reality and his entire environment are therefore based on an overarching intellectual formula that defines reality. This formula seems to embody the entire meaning of reality and life - like a universal law that he applies both to himself and to everything else. Since the extraverted thinking type subordinates itself to this intellectual formula, usually for the common good, it believes that everyone else should do exactly the same. Those who do not recognise the value of this universal intellectual formula are considered by him to be nonsensical, immoral and lacking in empathy; for all his objective, scientific observations seem to point to this formula. It defines true and false, good and bad, moral and immoral. All activities that are purely dependent on feelings, such as one's own taste in things, the cultivation of friendships, irrational phenomena such as religious experiences, are suppressed into the deepest corners of the subconsciousness.
However, the thinking of the extraverted thinking type has an exceptionally positive attitude and is associated with a kind of productivity. It likes to discover new facts and develop new ideas based on empirical data. A characterising feature of this type of thinking is that it is never completely dismissive or destructive, as it always immediately replaces the old with something new - its vital energy flows into its thinking, which is why it always possesses progressive and creative qualities. The extraverted thinking type is often an extraordinary altruist with strong ethical intentions. However, his pure ethical intentions could lead him into situations where he is suddenly faced with compromises. His need to help or save others can ironically cause the very things he most wanted to avoid. The most negative manifestations of this type, caused by repressed feeling, may be so strongly driven by the need to save humanity that they will stop at no lie or ruse to prove their own intellectual formula as true - for example, evidence may be falsified in their favour to enforce their own ideal. The influence of this extraverted thinking type can manifest itself most negatively within one's own family, where its influence is greatest and its intellectual formula can dominate; in the end, however, it is usually he himself who suffers the most.
The Shadow Side
The extraverted thinking type can be seen as a primitive manifestation of the introverted feeling type (IF), as it suppresses its aspects into the deepest subconscious, which is why the use of this function is predominantly negative. In general, the extraverted thinking type has an extremely impersonal attitude, which is why he may neglect his personal interests, his health and his social position in the service of his ideal - but possibly also the most important interests of his family, finances and morality itself. The most difficult thing for him is to recognise his subconscious sensitivity, as he does not understand his own feelings well - his subconscious feeling manifests itself as extreme hypersensitivity.
If he perceives the opposition of others to himself, then due to his sensitivity there is a tendency to make negative emotional assumptions and accusations about other people in order to devalue their point of view. This sensitivity makes him sharp and biting in his tone and could turn into phases of hatred. In general, it is very difficult for him to face his own vulnerabilities. Overall, the most negative form of this type describes a tyrant who wants to bring those around him completely under his own morality for the sake of his intellectual formula, while the average manifestation is an extremely humanitarian and ethical person, often with a strong scientific interest.
