"The Extraverted Intuitive Type"
EN (Ne)
Introduction
The extraverted intuition type (EN) focuses its intuition predominantly on external objects. However, as intuition is mainly a subconscious process, its nature is difficult to understand. Basically, he can be described as a person who does not make clear decisions based on thinking or feeling and at the same time leads a more or less unrealistic life, as he constantly strives for new external possibilities and options. The extraverted intuition type grasps new objects and situations with great intensity, often with extraordinary enthusiasm, only to look for an alternative again later as soon as the full spectrum of possibilities has been anticipated by his subconsciousness. As long as the world offers him a new possibility, it is also very likely that this pattern will constantly repeat itself. However, he himself may have the impression that he has finally found a life situation that feels like a final turning point for him, in which he can no longer think or feel anything else. No matter how reasonable this stable life situation would be and how many arguments would be in favour of it, there may come a day when nothing will stop him from seeing it as another prison that takes away his freedom - neither thinking nor feeling can keep him away from such a new possibility, even if it goes against all previous beliefs. This is why the extraverted intuition type claims to be free from all restrictions, whereby its decisions are not based on rational judgement, but are instead guided purely by the wheel of fate.
The extraverted intuition type, just like the introverted intuition type, can never be found in the world of accepted reality values, as stable conditions and, above all, traditions stifle them - they are always found where new possibilities for the future arise. His morals are based neither on intellect nor feelings, but on loyalty to his own intuitive views and visions. Accordingly, he has little respect for the values, beliefs and customs of his neighbours, as he could tear them down without consideration for his vision. On the other hand, if his intentions are not selfish, the extraverted intuition type acts as a natural advocate for any minority yearning for a promising future, as he can ignite potential, life and enthusiasm in others. The danger here, however, is that he wastes his own life, as he could always be looking for new fresh opportunities and new beginnings, while only others benefit from his previous endeavours. However, most people of the extraverted intuition type are very capable of working towards a long-term goal in the future and staying true to it; this should not be misunderstood - its most important characteristic is that it constantly perceives a certain potential in its external environment that it would like to realise in its future.
The Shadow Side
The extraverted intuition type can be described as a primitive manifestation of the introverted sensation type (IS), as its aspects are repressed into the deepest levels of one's subconsciousness. This takes the form of negative projections and compulsions related to many aspects of his physical and bodily reality in the sexual, financial and physical atmosphere. The true substance of physical reality therefore remains obscured to them. One form of this is possible symptoms of hypochondria, which manifests as strong suspicions and fears related to apparently approaching illnesses; another form may be an obsessive attachment to the most inappropriate version of a partner.
His great eye for possibilities and eventualities blinds him to physical reality, as he claims for himself a freedom from all restrictions, even if these restrictions would have a positive influence on his life. Another possible consequence of this is a liberation from all reason, which can lead to neurotic compulsion in the form of pedantic, negative thinking, hair-splitting and an extreme dependence on the physical object in question.
